Portfolio – Beach Getaway

For this vacation home used a few times a year, the space needed to feel comfortable and contained, whether two people were staying or seven (including several grandchildren). The home also needed to allow for cocktail parties and casual dinners for 30 or more guests at a time.

The client is interested in all types of art so I chose soulful handwoven fabrics and locally crafted wood and metal furniture. The dining table, for example, was made by a nearby woodworker out of aged Mango wood, with a thick piece of clear glass in the center of the table. In many ways the house is a museum of local art bought at community fundraisers, helping to weave the community into the client’s home, thereby creating the soul that gives the home its warmth.

Another consideration in the design was the natural beauty outside the home. The client didn’t want the interior to interfere with the view, so we chose a neutral color palette to match the exterior.
